Here is an entertaining impression of Greater Victoria by one of it's many visitors

In the charming and delightful city of Victoria, British Columbia, I found myself in a place that can only be described as an oddball's paradise.

It’s a city where weather is about as predictable as a cat on a hot tin roof. In 2008, for instance, Victoria set a record for the most consecutive days of rain in human history, with a staggering 23 straight days of drizzle.

But don’t let that discourage you. The mild climate is like a warm hug on a rainy day, and the famous Butchart Gardens are a ray of sunshine in an otherwise dreary world.

What was once a limestone quarry has been transformed into a botanical wonderland, showcasing over 900 varieties of flowers. It’s like a giant, colorful thank you note from Mother Nature to all of us for not destroying the planet.

Victoria is well-known for its British heritage, but it’s also got a rich Chinese history, making it a mini-China, for those of you who can’t afford a trip to the real thing.

But the city has some other hidden treasures too. For starters, Victoria has a thriving weed culture, earning it the nickname "Amsterdam of Canada," or "The Bong Capital of the North," whichever you prefer.

And as if that weren’t enough, it’s also becoming a haven for beer enthusiasts, giving Germany a run for its money in the world’s greatest beer-drinking location.

One of the city's most recognizable buildings is the Empress Hotel. It was once a place for weary railroad workers to lay their heads, but now it’s a 5-star, world-class hotel that caters to the wealthy and famous.

If you’re in the mood for some education and adventure, Victoria is home to the Royal British Columbia Museum. It boasts the world's only collection of humanoid remains from the ancient civilization of the Kwakwaka'wakw people. It’s like an Indiana Jones’ museum, but with less snakes and more artifacts that may or may not be cursed.

Finally, the city's picturesque Inner Harbour was once a noisy and industrial area, but now it looks more like a fairy tale come to life, with boats bobbing on the water and seagulls overhead.

With its breathtaking beauty and its thriving tech industry, Victoria is quickly becoming known as the Silicon Valley of the North. It’s a city that truly has something for everyone, unless you’re looking for a city with no rain and a thriving oil industry, in which case, you’re out of luck.
