So I'm here in Victoria, BC with my lovely wife, who insisted we take a vacation because she was tired of me talking about how much I love to write. Apparently, there's more to life than just staring at a blank page all day. Who knew?

My wife is a plant enthusiast, and I'm more of a "plants are nice, but can we get a beer now?" kind of guy. But even I have to admit that the gardens are pretty impressive. It's like being in a floral labyrinth, except with fewer minotaurs and more bees.

And if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a gnome or two, hiding among the flowers.

But let's talk about Chinatown. It's the oldest in Canada, which means it's practically ancient in North American terms.

And the narrowest street in the world? Come on, walking through Fan Tan Alley, is just asking for trouble. But despite the potential for disaster, Chinatown is a must-visit spot. The food alone is worth the trip – it's like being transported to Shanghai or Hong Kong, except without the jet lag or the risk of being swallowed by a giant sea monster.

Then there are the bookstores. Victoria has more bookstores per capita than anywhere else in Canada, which is a real nerd's paradise. My wife practically had to drag me out of one of them, kicking and screaming like a child being dragged away from Disneyland. But it's not just about the books – the bookstores themselves are works of art, with old wooden floors and creaky stairs that make you feel like you're in a Nancy Drew mystery.

Of course, no trip to Victoria is complete without a ghost story or two. The Empress Hotel is supposedly haunted by a woman who died in room 604. My wife was so excited to see a ghost that she slept with one eye open all night, like a character in a horror movie. But I didn't mind – I slept like a baby, dreaming of giant totem poles and smoked salmon candy.

And speaking of smoked salmon candy, Victoria has some of the best seafood around, which is saying something for a city surrounded by water. But it's not just the seafood – the poutine is a thing of beauty, and the beaver tails are surprisingly delicious (and no, they're not actually made from beavers' tails. That would be weird).

But I've saved the best for last. The annual dragon boat festival is like the Super Bowl of dragon boat racing. Teams from all over the world come to compete, and the atmosphere is electric. It's like being at a rock concert, except instead of guitars, there are paddles, and instead of groupies, there are... well, I guess there are still groupies, but they're wearing life jackets.

Victoria is a city that's weird, wonderful, and full of surprises. Whether you're a plant enthusiast, a bookworm, a foodie, or just someone who wants to see a ghost, Victoria has something for everyone. So grab your paddles and let's go dragon boat racing!
